What in the world is this thing called “life” all about?

Some people say it’s all about pleasure and having fun. Others say it’s all about work and accomplishments, power and money. Still others say we exist to find love. Sometimes we may wonder if life is nothing more than a time of suffering and pain.

Who’s right? And how do we know for sure?

And what about those people who seem to have it all together. Do they really? And if so, what do they know that we don’t?

In our current series, we’ll tackle these questions and more as we see how God answers the question, “What in the World Am I Doing Here?”

Vacation Bible School

This week, we go spelunking into the depths and learn to “Follow Jesus, the Light of the world!” Our VBS is for kids ages 3 years – 6th grade and runs from 6:30-8:30 each night this week (July 18-22). Come join the fun!

Muddy – The Prodigal Church

The story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15 is a beautiful portrayal of God’s love and forgiveness when we’ve gone astray. No matter how long or how far we have wandered and no matter what sins we have committed, our Heavenly Father is always there, waiting to receive us when we realize what a mess we’re in and want out of it.

Beginning this Sunday, we’ll look at that story from several perspectives, including a startling one that may just change the way you think about church and the Christian life.

Identity Theft

Do you know who you are? How do you know that what you believe about yourself is  really true? What if you’re missing out on the life that you could have…because, over time, you’ve gradually bought into some lies about your identity and worth?

This Sunday, we begin a series called Identity Theft, in which we’ll look at what God says about us, and how it may differ from what we’ve heard – either from the world around us, or from that little voice in the back of our mind that says “you don’t measure up.”

Mothers and Daughters Banquet

Thursday May 5th, we celebrate all women with our Mothers and Daughters Banquet, held at Camp Sonrise Mountain. Cost is $12 for adults $8 for children under the age of 12. You don’t have to be a part of our church to attend, just RSVP to Julianne at 724-317-8132 by May 1. The menu includes salad, baked chicken, scalloped potatoes, corn, and dessert. And as an added attraction (or punishment) entertainment will be provided by the Markleysburg Union men!

Empty: Wallet

This Sunday, the Empty series deals with a subject that is the single biggest source of arguments among couples: money. We’ll explore the relationship between God, us, and money and see what the Bible has to say about our finances. As Christians, are we called to be poor? Or, does God want to shower us with riches if we are a part of His Kingdom? Or is there a third way that we may have missed?

EMPTY: Marriage

 

This Sunday, as the EMPTY series continues, we look at marriage. Empty is not usually a word we associate with a healthy marriage, but that is exactly what God intends a marriage to be. We’ll look at what marriage is, and what it’s not, and tackle one of the most misquoted and misunderstood verses in the Bible: “wives obey your husbands.”

Hospitality

This week, we start a series on the practice of hospitality. It is a concept that is found throughout the Bible, and required by God of His people. But demonstrating hospitality goes way beyond inviting friends and family over to the house once in a while. It is actually a Spirit-empowered quality that, if used properly, can play a huge role in helping the Kingdom of God to grow. In the series, we’ll also look at why it is so important, and how the practice of hospitality can actually be a vehicle for God to bring blessings upon us.
